The 1.2liter Turbo Renault Clio GT Line - A budget Clio RS?



Whilst I was over in Thailand driving a truck, interviewing truck drivers and eating lots of tom yam, TC Euro Cars launched the New Renault CLIO GT LINE. The car will be available in Malaysia at the estimated price of RM118,000, with an additional RM5,000 for the Flame Red colour. Launch availability is slated for Q4 2015. The spirited and sporty five-door hatchback will be available in four colours – Flame Red, Diamond Black, Glacier White and Malta Blue.


Like all Renault passenger cars, service intervals for the New Renault CLIO GT LINE are 10,000km or six months, whichever comes first. It also comes with a five-year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty, which unlike other new vehicle extended warranties, is fully-backed by Renault for enhanced ease of ownership as there are fewer complications with terms and conditions.

Question is whether the car can be a bread and butter variant of the fun to drive Clio RS. Armed with a 1.2liter turbocharged engine that makes 118hp /190Nm torque it does 0-100kmh in 9.4seconds via its 6 speed dual clutch gearbox. As a warm, not hot hatch, it is actually as fast as a large 2.0liter hatchback with an automatic. So, on paper the Clio GT Line looks to be quite preppy. The drive experience is needed for any final comments.

Balanced, dynamic exterior styling and proportions

The New CLIO GT LINE also champions Renault’s new design strategy which places emphasis on simplicity, warmth and sensuality.

Starting with its front-end design, which features the prominent Renault logo, set bold and upright to a gloss black background, this frontal treatment is further emphasised by the headlights – the lower edge of which is picked out in chrome – and wide-set LED daytime running lights.

A special rear bumper design, body-coloured side protective mouldings with dark metal insert, dark metal door mirror housing, extra-tinted rear glass, special 17-inch alloy wheels as well as GT LINEbadging on the tailgate, all contribute to the sporty exterior of the New Renault CLIO GT LINE.

Like the New Clio, Renault designers have also paid particularly careful attention to achieving balanced proportions for this GT LINEversion. It is a low-slung car (height: 1,448 mm) and this lower ride height not only provides the car with a more solid stance but also benefits its aerodynamics. Meanwhile, the wide front and rear track further enhances stability and road-holding.

With pronounced shoulder lines, the New Renault CLIO GT LINE’s coupé-like silhouette is accentuated by integrated rear door handles concealed close to the rear quarter lights. The ratio of wheel-size to vehicle-height has been fine-tuned for a more dynamic look, while the large-diameter wheels are pushed outwards in order to fill and finish flush with the wheel arches.

Punchy performance with outstanding fuel efficiency

Building on the expertise it has gained as an engine supplier in Formula One®, Renault continues to demonstrate that a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine vehicle can – with new technologies and an ongoing quest for maximum efficiency – deliver on power and performance without sacrificing fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.

The New Renault CLIO GT LINEfeatures the company’s Turbo Control Efficiency or TCe 120 engine– a thoroughly modern powertrain that comes in a small four-cylinder engine displacement with a turbocharger, delivering performance equivalent to a naturally-aspirated 1.8L engine.

Mated to a 6-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission which delivers fast but smooth gear changes, Renault’s punchy new drivetrain enables the New CLIO GT LINEto deliver maximum power of 118hp at 4900 rpm and peak torque of 190 Nm that is available from as low as 2,000 rpm – enabling powerful acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. At the same time, this spirited yet fuel-efficient engine also offers fuel efficiency of up to 5.2L/100km1, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 120g/km.

Additionally, by engaging the car’s ECO mode, which automatically changes the way the powertrain operates, up to 10 percent of fuel savings can be achieved.

Packed with innovations: more driving pleasure, enhanced travelling comfort and safety

The New Renault CLIO GT LINE’s suspension combines driving precision with reduced noise and vibration levels. The Macpherson-type front suspension is linked to a right-angled triangular lower wishbone with twin bushes. This configuration delivers better road holding, more responsive handling and steering precision while minimising the effect of longitudinal and transverse loads, which is vital for the comfort of occupants.

The rear suspension comprises a programmed-deflection torsion beam with coil springs and an anti-roll bar to optimise cornering stability. Effective shock absorption is assisted by bump stops that are now made from polyurethane, which are more progressive than the older design and add further to the comfort delivered by this GT LINE version of the Renault Clio.

With reduced weight combined with the optimised calibration of the electrically-assisted power steering (EPS) and a quicker steering rack, the car is even more manoeuvrable, with a 10.6-metre turning circle.

Additionally, the New Renault CLIO GT LINE comes equipped with the Renault Bass Reflex system. This clever sound system, integrated into the front doors’ loudspeakers, deliver the volume and listening enjoyment of a 30-litre home speaker enclosure. It also delivers more powerful bass frequencies, while further pushing back saturation and distortion thresholds.

  • Child protection: Three-point ISOFIX child seat anchorage for three seats (front passenger seat and two outer rear seats) and four homologated seat belt anchorage points
  • Pedestrian protection: Particular attention was paid to this aspect of passive safety. From the outset, the design incorporated several features to minimise the risk of impact injury, notably to the head, legs and hips. The bottom of the front bumper is sufficiently rigid to prevent flexing at knee level but has a softer upper part to lessen potential leg injuries. The bonnet and front panel were conceived to reduce the severity of head and hip injuries, while the foot of the windscreen, bottom of the window bay and dashboard were designed to minimise the likelihood of cuts in the case of impact to the head
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Roll Movement Intervention. This intervenes in extreme situations, if the body roll angle threatens to become excessive. It makes use of the ESC’s control unit to brake individual wheels
  • Hill Start Assist prevents the vehicle from rolling back when the driver releases the foot brake by temporarily holding the vehicle stationary
  • ABS and Emergency Brake Assist, plus latest-generation ESC traction control complete with seven sensors

The new BMW M4 GTS - Do you want one? I do.


BMW has a new GTS model. The BMW M4 GTS is a 700 unit limited edition that celebrates the 30th anniversary of the BMW M3 (Essentially the M4 is a two door M3 as BMW names its two door coupes in even numbers). 


The BMW M4 GTS uses the multi-award-winning six-cylinder in-line turbo engine from the BMW M3/M4, but adds innovative water injection technology to give the 3.0-litre unit a substantial power boost. The water injection system raises the engine’s output significantly – to 368 kW/500 hp – and increases torque to 600 Nm (442 lb-ft), yet still keeps fuel economy and CO2 emissions at the level of the BMW M4 Coupe (8.3 litres per 100 km* [34 mpg imp], 194 g/km*). This makes the BMW M4 GTS the most agile, radical and dynamically potent model in the range. It races from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 3.8 seconds and hits a limited top speed of 305 km/h (189.5 mph).

Aside from the engine mods, the M4 GTS gets a whole lot of carbon fiber addenda. That wing. That rollcage inside. Because ... racecar. Yes?

The BMW M4 GTS gives BMW M GmbH a new and exclusive technological showpiece which elevates the potential of the BMW M4 Coupe to another impressive new level. With its powerful, motor sport-inspired looks and high-performance technology, the BMW M4 GTS has its sights set squarely on the race track. A lap time of 7.28 minutes around the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the world’s most exacting race circuit, is a clear statement of this special-edition model’s exceptional abilities. At the same time, the sharpest BMW M4 of all – like its BMW M stablemates – can also hold its own on public roads. BMW M GmbH is launching the BMW M4 GTS in a special edition limited to 700 units to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the BMW M3, which has been in production since 1986. In so doing, it is highlighting the innovative flair of the BMW M engineers in developing trailblazing M technologies on the powertrain, chassis and lightweight construction front. Performance boost courtesy of innovative water injection. 
At the heart of each and every BMW M model is its engine. Lightweight design extends into the details. 


Intelligent lightweight construction allows the BMW M engineers to limit the car’s DIN kerb weight to 1,510 kilograms (ECE kerb weight: 1,585 kg). Its outstanding weight-to-power ratio of 3.0 kg/hp provides the perfect platform for a highly dynamic driving experience. The rigorous weight-saving measures extend through both the interior and exterior of the car. Inside, carbon-fibre bucket seats, a lightweight centre console, the lightweight construction of the rear seat panelling and boot area partition, and special lightweight door and side panel trim, including door pull loops in place of solid door handles, are clearly visible indications of the designers’ commitment to weight-saving. The rigorous application of lightweight design can also be seen in details that are out of view. The instrument panel bracing tube is made from lightweight carbon fibre. And on the outside of the car, the newly designed bonnet, roof and adjustable front splitter are also constructed from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). The adjustable rear wing, too, is cut from this light but extremely durable high-tech material. It rests on intricate, CNC-machined aluminium mounts fixed to the CFRP boot lid which likewise demonstrate how every detail, no matter how small, has been honed to minimise weight. Teaming up with the diffuser – again, made from carbon fibre – below the rear bumper, the rear wing optimises the flow of air and reduces lift at the rear axle. The exhaust system has a titanium muffler, which allows a weight saving of 20 per cent. Its emotionally rich soundtrack fits the M profile perfectly and envelops the inside and outside of the car in the ambience of the race track.

Performance-maximising equipment features. 


The standard-fitted seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) selects the optimum ratio for every driving situation with no interruption in the flow of power as it makes its way to the rear wheels. The driver can also select gears manually using either shift paddles on the steering wheel or the selector lever. The Drivelogic shift programs and Launch Control have been retuned to the engine’s increased output. The weight-minimised, exclusive M light-alloy wheels in star-spoke 666 M Styling are forged and polished, and come in Acid Orange. They are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres (front: 265/35 R19, rear: 285/30 R20) which are adapted specifically to the BMW M4 GTS and therefore play a role in the car’s outstanding mechanical traction and feedback through corners.
The three-way M coilover suspension specially tuned for the BMW M4 GTS can be adjusted to individual tastes and therefore also to the demands of different race circuits. The lightweight M carbon ceramic brakes offer a well-defined pressure point and ensure outstanding deceleration even under sustained heavy loads, such as at the limit on the race track.
World-exclusive OLED technology, brilliant LED light. 
The familiar two sets of twin circular headlights with four corona rings ensure the best possible illumination of the road surface. They combine cutting-edge LED (light-emitting diode) technology with BMW Selective Beam (dazzle-free high beam assistant) and Adaptive Headlights.
The L-shaped rear lights are just as distinctive as the design of the headlights. Indeed, innovative OLED rear lights will make their series-production debut in the BMW M4 GTS. OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes) are a new kind of light source that light up over their full surface with a very homogeneous effect – unlike LED units, which emit their light in the form of points. The flat design of OLEDs (they measure just 1.4 millimetres in height) and the ability to trigger individual light modules separately open up fresh possibilities for lighting concepts and exudes the presence of exceptional precision. As such, the tail lights underline the width of the rear end, lend the car an even more eye-catching and powerful appearance and ensure it cuts a stand-out figure in both the light and dark.
The interior – focused, exclusive and committed to motor sport.
The carbon-fibre M bucket seats for the driver and passenger stick firmly with the lightweight construction theme inside the pure-bred, exclusive interior. They weigh around 50 per cent less than the sports seats in the BMW M4 Coupe, enable an ideal seating position and offer compelling long-distance comfort to go with their unbeatable levels of support. The exclusive Alcantara/Merino leather seat covering along with M stripes in the backrests, three-point seat belts and door pull loops highlight the profile of the BMW M4 GTS as a high-performance sports machine as well as the car’s standalone character. The M4 GTS is fitted with different bucket-style M sports seats (including lightweight backrests with cut-outs) for the North American market, in line with local registration requirements.
The exclusive material Alcantara is also used for the M sports steering wheel, whose “12 o’clock” marker underlines the racing character of the BMW M4 GTS. In place of a rear seat bench, the BMW M4 GTS features a glass-fibre-reinforced plastic (GFRP) shelf and a rear panel in carbon-fibre sandwich construction. Both are covered in Alcantara, and together they enable a weight saving of around 40 per cent.
The optional Clubsport Package can further enhance the affinity of the BMW M4 GTS with the race track. It includes a roll bar in Acid Orange behind the front seats, a race-specification six-point harness** and a fire extinguisher.

Schools in Melaka and Negeri Sembilan to benefit from CALTEX FUEL YOUR SCHOOL CAMPAIGN

This campaign is now in its fourth year and it aims to fund eligible classroom projects – an approach to deliver inspiring classroom sessions for students to further promote the learning of Science, Technology, English and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, this year in Malacca and Negeri Sembilan. 

This year’s campaign reaches out to public schools in Malacca and Negeri Sembilan, with a total of 50 classroom projects to be awarded – 25 projects from schools in Malacca and 25 projects from schools in Negeri Sembilan. The selection of projects will be based on the creative and innovative use of requested project materials which promotes a hands-on learning experience in the classroom and meets the existing classrooms curriculum objectives. 


MyKasih Foundation has been working hand-in-hand with Chevron Malaysia to determine classroom projects that deserve to be funded through the Fuel Your School campaign. MyKasih is responsible for providing consultations to teachers and to help ensure classroom project proposals are scaled towards STEM subjects.

Shell officially introduces the latest and greatest Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30


I was at the official launching of Shell's latest Helix Ultra motor oil yesterday. It was a fabulous event where distinguished guests included valued customers as well as members of the media. The Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2//C3 0W-30 is Shell Lubricant's latest and most advanced product in the Shell Helix With PurePlus Technology range. It is the highest grade that Shell has and offers up to four times better wear protection than the industry standard.

We were entertained with food and drink whilst being briefed on the virtues of Shell's latest and greatest engine oil. Some of the food was as cutting edge as the engine oil as it was quite a fusion of different flavours that confused the heck out of our palettes. Anyway, back to the engine oil at hand, Shell Lubricants General Manager for Malaysia and SIngapore, Mr Leslie Ng (above- the chap in the tuxedo holding the Helix Ultra pack) told us that the Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30 is also our most advanced formulation to date.


How advanced you say? 45% cleaner pistons to protect and maximise the engine’s working life and it can deliver up to 2.6% greater fuel economy or 16 kilometres more per tank. A slippery oil that can protect yet not create unwanted drag is what this engine oil is. 

The product meets ACEA C2, ACEA C3,(one a rating for the standards of fuel economy, the other for clean emissions) and API SN specifications. Manufacturer approvals include: VW504.00/507.00, MB 229.52, MB 229.51, MB 229.31 and Fiat 955535.GS1. Do note that these ratings represent the most demanding standards within the motoring industry. if the engine oil complies with the standards mentioned above, then it is indeed a product worthy to be used for even the most simplest engines. In simple terms, use any engine oil with that has the above specifications even for a 2014 Proton and you're giving it the best protection for the engine that your money can buy.

As with most fully synthetic oils these days, the Shell Helix Ultra 0W-30 is backward compatible. This basically means that you could use it if you car only requires simple API SL ratings, VW 501/502 or MB229.1. But as always, read your car's owner's manual. Inside it is usually a chart on the types of engine oil you can use, from the thinnest to the thickest one can use - tip- The larger the number at the end (eg. 20W50 means a thicker viscosity than 0W30 - usually in tropical countries like ours the front number is of no concern as it is more for cold weather capabilities).

The new Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30 is priced at RM338 for a 4-litre pack. It is actually aimed at the higher end of the car market where market forces (like the current financial quagmire Malaysia is facing) does not really affect those that would use the oil. It is also a fully imported product and is packed in the European Union.  

Oh yes. I will be trying out the Shell Helix Ultra 0W-30 sometime within the next few months. It will go into the Perodua Myvi which recently benefited from an engine oil change at the recent Shell #lovemyride event. There it received the Helix Ultra 5W-40 with PurePlus Technology. It has been performing very well so far and when the oil change interval is up, the Helix Ultra 0W-30 will be used. For your information, the Myvi has been using fully synthetic 5W-40 for at least three previous oil changes. Prior to this the Myvi was on Perodua's w30 weight semi-synthetic engine oil. Now  it will go back to its original factory oil grade but with a more premium engine oil. I will write about it once the oil change is done.

Kuala Lumpur, 6 October 2015 – Shell Lubricants has launched the latest and most advanced product in its Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus Technology range. The new Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30 offers superior performance and engine protection, achieving unsurpassed wear protection of four times better than the industry standard, setting a new record for Shell Helix. 

The new flagship product from the Shell Helix range is formulated with patented Shell PurePlus Technology and features Emissions Compatible Technology (ECT), developed to help protect the emissions systems of the most modern diesel and gasoline engines. It also meets the technically-challenging industry specifications and approvals of top tier equipment manufacturers, including Mercedes and Volkswagen.

Speaking at the launch, Shell Lubricants General Manager – Malaysia and Singapore, Leslie Ng, said that the new Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30 has the highest specifications of all motor oils in the market.

“Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30 is also our most advanced formulation to date. It is designed to deliver superior performance and protection, to help keep your engine performing at its best.  As with our Shell Helix Ultra products, this product is formulated using our revolutionary PurePlus Technology. The even and stable molecular structure of PurePlus Technology is a key part of the performance of Shell Helix Ultra motor oils, as it enables us to create motor oil that performs better than ever before. This means we can develop motor oils that exceed drivers’ demands for cleanliness and protection, as well as improved fuel economy,” he said.

Leslie pointed out that the new Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30 was designed with multi-fuel capability and extremely well-suited for the most advanced, low-emissions vehicles.  These vehicles are normally powered by diesel engines with particulate filters, high-performance gasoline engines or gas, bio-diesel and ethanol blend engines.  It is also backward compatible with many OEM and industry specifications.

Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30 formulation achieved superior results in industry standard tests, proving that no other motor oil cleans your engine better. Besides unsurpassed wear protectionof up to four times more, it delivered three times better corrosion protection  of engine components, helping to extend engine life.

Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 also produced 45% cleaner pistons to protect and maximise the engine’s working life and delivered up to 2.6% greater fuel economy or 16 kilometres more per tank.
Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 is formulated from natural gas using Shell’s revolutionary PurePlus Technology. This revolutionary gas-to-liquids technology process converts natural gas into a crystal-clear base oil with virtually none of the impurities found in crude oil.

Base oils make up on average 75-90% of the end product, so high-quality base stock with significantly more isoparaffins than others is a key component in top-tier engine oils. The base oil is then enhanced with Shell’s proprietary Active Cleansing Technology to create the company’s most advanced fully synthetic motor oil ever, which delivers higher levels of protection against build-up of engine deposits and unsurpassed sludge protection.

Semula pengusahaan gas di Indonesia adalah perusahaan gas swasta Belanda yang bernama I.J.N. Eindhoven & Co berdiri pada tahun 1859 yang memperkenalkan penggunaan gas kota di Indonesia yang terbuat dari batu bara. Pada 27 Oktober 1945, Presiden Soekarno membentuk Jawatan Listrik dan Gas di bawah Departemen Pekerjaan Umum dan Tenaga dengan kapasitas pembangkit tenaga listrik sebesar 157,5 MW. Pada tahun 1958 perusahaan I.J.N. Eindhoven & Co dinasionalisasi dan diubah menjadi PN Gas.
Pada tanggal 1 Januari 1961, Jawatan Listrik dan Gas diubah menjadi BPU-PLN (Badan Pimpinan Umum Perusahaan Listrik Negara) yang bergerak di bidang listrik, gas dan kokas yang dibubarkan pada tanggal 1 Januari 1965. Pada saat yang sama, 2 (dua) perusahaan negara yaitu Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) sebagai pengelola tenaga listrik milik negara dan Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) sebagai pengelola gas diresmikan.
