Something on Bangkok, Travel, Malaysia and Top Gear style of travel

Hello folks! I have been busy vacationing this Id-ul-Fitr celebrations and was firstly at the Missus' kampung in Muar, Johor and then up north to Bangkok, Thailand. A fair bit of travel and R&R you may say but one has to actually travel to see more of our surroundings. With travel, one's point of view differs and with travel, one actually gets to see how things actually happen and what progress actually is.

Take for example Bangkok. It is a heck of a city. Six million people within the city and another fourteen million in the surrounding area of Greater Bangkok makes it one of the busiest cities in the world. It is a mega-city, like Jakarta. It is slightly more organised than Jakarta in that there is more than a semblance of a public transport system with its Tuk-tuks, taxis, buses, water taxis and the rail transit system. But in a city with so many people, it merely helps instead of totally alleviate the massive traffic in Bangkok.

Oh, there are nice cars too. On the roads (managed to catch a glimpse of the USDM type Camry sports that they are selling there - nice and so much better than the normal facelift ones here in KL and also there in Bangkok) and in the shopping malls. One could even go up to the Siam Paragon shopping mall and catch a glimpse of some Rolls Royces, Porsches, Lamborghinis and Bentleys parked right beside the H&M on the second floor. They sell them there.

And what a city it is! Amazingly packed with foreigners of the tourist kind. From the budget tourist to the ones that fly in via private jet. Bangkok caters for this. It is a vibrant, vibrant city. A mix of everything. Kuala Lumpur needs a lot more to achieve the levels cities like Bangkok and Singapore. Maybe we need to stop the stupid politics, money squandering (our Prime Minister needs to openly answer questions about some issues with a simple YES or NO instead of what he is doing right now) and overly religious overtones in order to actually progress. And we need to stop emulating Arabs - a total waste of time as they, as part of the human race have not actually contributed anything at all over the last hundred years or so. All these jubahs, turbans and other stuff should stay for your umrahs and pilgrimages. No cure for cancer, travels to space if we follow the Arabic way of thinking. Arabic way is what most Malays are thinking these days. Its not Islamic. Get it?  Anyway, today is just a short post. I could go on and on but I have a lunch appointment.

So since we are on the subject of travel, here is an Infographic - The Cost of Doing Top Gear Road Trips from a UK based company who have been pestering me to put up something from them on this website. It's not too bad actually... click on it if you want a more uninterrupted view of it.
